FIELD TRIP FAQs!
How do field trips work? First thing is you let me know you're interested in this service by filling out the form on the main page. Next, if you're a new client to me, we schedule a free consultation so I can meet you, your furry family member, and get an idea of what kind of outing would be a good fit for them. Some may enjoy a department store while others may need space and enjoy a nature walk instead. After you pick your day(s) (look over your schedule and get back with me) I come back to your house on your chosen day, pick up my companion, and we're off for some training and fun!
Do I have to be home for you to pick up/drop off my dog? For your convenience, you do not, but it's totally up to you and what you're comfortable with. We would dive deeper into this during our consult, however, I have worked with law enforcement for 20 years on some very sensitive and high profile cases through my other line of work (have extensive background check). Integrity and confidentiality are extremely important values that transfer to the rest of my work. Your home and furry family member will be treated like my own. We might also be able to coordinate a pick up and drop off meet spot!
What are the excursion packages and what does that included? First, you have 2 options. You can pick to do a 2 hour field trip or a longer day outing (2+ hours). Second, each field trip will include pick up, a training outing customized for your dog (pictures included if you want), water/rest breaks mixed in, and drop off. Prices are on the main page. If you have multiple dogs, there is a second dog discount. You also have the option to purchase 2 day outing excursions at a time for a discount if you like.
What if my dog doesn't like other dogs? That's okay! Outings are designed with the learner (your dog) in mind. If your dog needs space, then we can visit places with plenty of room and avoid other dog encounters at all costs.
What if my dog doesn't like people? That one is a little tricky right now. Outings and all training/interactions are designed to set the learner up for success. At this time, if your dog is not keen on people, stressing them out by having someone come over during the consult and after that is probably not the best option for you right now. This is something you are more then welcome to inquire about and we can discuss however!
Where would my dog ride? In a secure, well ventilated crate in my climate controlled and monitored K9 vehicle.
You said there would be training included? Yes! Just like a school outing where students visit a place of interest for the day, there is still the educational aspect of it. Each field trip will include training of either reinforcing good leash skills, working on recalls, settling in public, polite greetings (with owner approval), and just generally overall working on being a good canine citizen. *NOTE: While these behaviors are something that will be captured and rewarded during field trips and will generally improve overall, they will not be transferred to the owner in an official capacity unless otherwise specifically requested. If you are interested in a training session on how to maintain the behaviors that are being worked on during the outings, please let me know at any time.
What about age? While there is no student that is too old, puppies must be a minimum of 8 weeks to enjoy field trips. Those with puppies can benefit greatly from this service by having their dog properly socialized (which is not the same as exposure) in a controlled environment during that crucial window. And since old dogs can learn new tricks, they benefit from the mental stimulation and can add a few new skills to their already established repertoire.
What about weather? I'm willing to walk in the rain/snow if your pup is! *NOTE: There is 100% chance of your dog coming into contact with nature. This could include mud and wet surfaces. While all effort will be kept from letting them just get completely filthy, they may be returned in the state equivalent to a jaunt in your backyard or a walk. Some dirty or wet paws can be expected. Sessions could also possibly be cancelled last minute if extreme or sudden weather conditions present themselves. Extreme conditions will be dealt with on a case by case basis and would just be planned around accordingly.
Can I get updates during the outing? If you want them, of course!! I'd be delighted to send a picture of your learner working on new skills and doing fun things while we are out!
Is there an equipment requirement? For liability and safety purposes, yes. It's nothing fancy, but please make sure your learner is outfitted with only a well fitted flat collar, body harness, or martingale collar (for the Houdini's out there).
How do I sign up? You can either close this window and go back to the main page or fill out the form here and I'll be in touch!
